Tiffany

So I realized that I didn't put up a profile of me. I'm sorry I couldn't finish my profile only because I couldn't think of a symbol for me. Though I will still be thinking about possible symbol choices, I would like suggestions. Maybe this could lead to an online voting thing. Who knows? The possibilities are endless like time (except here at Berkeley where time seems to be in high demand along with sleep).

What can I tell you about myself?

I really like the beach + sitting on the sand and watching the waves + building sand castles+ boogie boarding + just walking along the shore + seashells + dolphins, . . . etc. Ahh! That's starting to look like a math equation. The sad part is I only go to the beach once a year, and it's not that I live far away or the water is freezing cold (another reference to Berkeley). Sigh.

I am easily entertained. I'm pretty sure that if I was left alone on the island, I could probably entertain myself or make something. But if I was left on a plot of sand with no palm trees whatsoever, I would be pretty sad. I know that my college experience would have been very different had I not met these people (the previous profiles). They bring interesting moments into my lives and continue to do so. (scary I know)

As for this comic strip, sorry about the hiatus. Here are some life lessons I have learned thus far:

1. Never carry 19 units in one semester.

2. Sleep is my greatest friend. I miss you Sleep. :(

3. Midterms suck. Actually tests in general suck (especially those at night).

I will soon post up a list of possible symbols for me. Please feel free to comment and offer suggestions.

Semi-comeback

It's almost 1/2 way through the semester. I feel bad that I haven't had the time to update my comic strip. There is so much to update. I still have things from last year and new stuff this year. Ahh. Breathing in slowly and exhaling. I'm not sure why they make you breathe in slowly (probably to lower your heart rate, but why? I'm sure overworking your heart and circulating blood throughout the body is way better than sitting around indifferently like a stone).

I guess going off on a tangent, here are some pix of what I see from my desk everyday (unless the blinds are covering them). Voila.

You might be wondering why there's a semi-bloody image on my window (the right one) of a cute dragon feasting on a knight? Well, I created the phoenix for Flor. I was taking a break from my studies, and I felt bad that my artistic creativity was going to waste. Anyways, I created the phoenix to partially entertain myself. I didn't really want anything on my window, but then the phoenix looked so lonely by itself. So I created the dragon, but it was too plain. So I got carried away just a little. The only problem with these decorations is that no one can see them from the outside because there's a screen over our windows. I mean the lack of circulation in the room is bad enough, why block out fresh air with a screen?

But that's all the updates I have for now.

Hiatus

Well, the first few weeks of school have been running smoothly with, of course, a few exceptions. Mastering Physics *cough* *cough* I mean this is almost as bad as the Chemistry OWL homeworks 2 semesters back except that Mastering Physics penalizes you for wrong answers (or in my case, submitting the wrong answer because I clicked on the wrong answer choice by accident [stupid slip of the finger]). This is so weird having to do homework online. Who in the world decided that homework should be online? Let's measure the benefits.

Pros & Cons
1. Save paper
not really. I used many sheets of paper solving these problems
2. Efficient feedback
yeah... if you click on the wrong answer, the following happen:
3 attempts remaining
on occasion: purple feedback box with useless information
it even marks things incorrect because it distinguishes between a 0 and an O
3. Tests you on the concepts
I can't find relevant examples in my textbook which is quite frustrating

I guess if you don't have internet, then school might be a bit difficult for you especially science-related majors. Enough ranting and raving.

As for this comic, the evil midterm season is approaching.
[insert music]

choice of music
1. suspenseful music - dun dun duh
2. psycho theme song - ee ee ee ee

Continuing on. So because of the approaching midterm season, I think this comic might be on a bit of a hiatus. Hopefully, I will be able to update, but please be patient. Thank you. ^.^

Nikki

Here's Nikki. Sorry Nikki that it took so long to put up. So rewind back to last year about this time (maybe a couple more weeks back). I met Nikki when she made a cool video on her computer. After watching the video, I was amazed and intimated by her technological savvy. I do not want to recount the ways that technology has complicated my life. Though technology is awesome in some ways like the ipod and touchable screens, the vast Internet has some flaws namely internet-based homework. So you might think that you're saving tree by submitting homework online, but I'm pretty sure that there will the same amount of scratch paper, pencil shavings, and eraser pieces left over. Today, without the internet, you're pretty much doomed. I will restrain myself from using profanity because 1) it will forever be marked on the internet 2) this site is user/ reader friendly (I have no idea what that means, but what I meant was that this site is PG rated in language).

Nikki and I have a love for chemistry. blink blink. I remember sitting through lectures pointing our plastic i-clickers at the screen (as if it did anything). I'm pretty sure that the receiver was somewhere hidden in the webcasting room. Anyways, our professors were interesting and entertaining. To say the least, this is what I learned. Quote: "Oh yes. Hydrogen Peroxide-molecular formula H2O2. This is the stuff you clean your contact lenses with" Though I don't wear contacts, I'm pretty sure from watching people, that you don't clean your lenses with hydrogen peroxide. Wouldn't that start popping the blood vessels in your eyes?

What are we up to now? Well, our movie nights live on, somewhat. I feel like a critic when talking with Nikki. Our love for movies often allows us to look at the nitty gritty details. Stupid movies often stir up more conversation than well made movies. Also, I have yet to play Lego Star Wars with Nikki. That game is the cutest game and very entertaining. I like the fact that when the Lego people die, they fall to pieces. No blood, no gore, but yes laser guns. Man, I feel nerdy.

For more nerdiness, onto Asian dramas. So I never really understood drama watching until I entered college and the idea of being TV-less finally hit. Though I didn't watch TV much at home but rather movies (lots and lots of movies), Asian dramas differ from the regular soap operas and TV shows. I have to admit that an hour long episode (yes an entire hour with no commercials) can be quite grueling especially if the producer decides to stretch the drama out for more than 16 episodes. So yes, Asian dramas seem to have the same pattern: the love rectangle: the passive girl who likes this boy who likes her back or is mean to her but secretly will end up liking her later, the second girl (always manipulative and prettier) trying to get that boy's attention while somehow trying to off the passive girl, another boy who likes the passive girl and sometimes teams up with the evil girl to get his way. What I don't understand is why the passive girl remains so passive and tries to fight everything on her own. Of course the main boy remains pretty clueless, and the evil girl can't get it through her head that she isn't wanted and that there's no point hanging onto a guy who doesn't love you. As for the boy that completes the love rectangle, he just causes complications. I'm off dramas now for the moment because school has started. That might be a lie soon, but it's still true now.

Rebecca

Oh Reb. (person with a placard saying laugh runs across the stage) Hehehe. I'm not sure how I exactly met her, but I did hear of a girl who went to Mt. Carmel. I had vaguely heard of Mt. Carmel. Actually that's a lie. I knew of Mt. Carmel because that's where my piano teacher used to live. But to me, it was just another high school is San Diego (No offense Reb). So after I met Reb, I saw her as a diligent person who got everything done efficiently and got rewarded well because of her hard work. Of course I was jealous of efficiency + hard work = happiness (in some form) because I somehow lost couldn't master the first part of the equation. Sigh, if only I could bottle motivation, I'd be a millionaire. Aside from that point, she was pretty fun to talk to and tease a bit except for the fact that she always went to bed by 10. I wish I could have gone to bed early, but Latin and OWL Chem HW were kicking my butt simultaneously. Actually, OWL HW was just plain annoying.

So Reb is an intended Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) major. Eek is right. I mean it has my 2 worst enemies combined into 1 major. Who wants to ask for the chance to die by electricity and to die of frustration from stupid technology? Such battles I struggle with every though the chance of being struck by lightning isn't that high here, and I normally don't go around throwing electronics into bathtubs or sticking random things into wall sockets. As for technology, I should be grateful that my computer isn't dying or worse, Not Responding.

Onto more important things, Reb shares my interest in plushies and how they all have their own characters. And she also shares my interest in Peanuts (not the kind that people are allergic to which also can bring death to others by means of aflatoxin consumption). Why am I being so morbid in Reb's description? Maybe she did something to me in my past life. Well, she and I have yet to master the Yellow River duet on the piano. Personally, I've never played a duet (I get confused on "Heart and Soul" because there's too many notes playing all at once), but I am excited for this one. Hopefully we finish before we graduate.

But yay to nerdiness and to Comic-con and to Heroes and the Big Bang Theory. Reb is on her own for Pottercast and Astrophysics. Seriously, this semester, her astrophysics book is like a weapon: sharp corners and as is a bit thicker than the Webster's Dictionary High School edition.
I have also discovered something about Reb this new school year since she is my neighbor. She has this poking fetish. Sometimes she says poke without actually touching you. I guess it's similar to when I say "sigh" instead of actually sighing. It's quite a way to mess with people's heads. And I thought college messed with our heads enough. One last thing, I realized that Reb somewhat resembles a pirahna. To further explain, Flor, Reb and I went swimming last year. Imagine this. So Flor and I were resting near the shallow end of the wall when Reb's head emerges halfway above the water. Of course I see blue goggles, and then suddenly the head emerges again to show a set of shining teeth, and then the head submerges. This process repeats for a bit, and then we start swimming again. To me this is sort of creepy because it's like living the movie Jaws except with no anticipatory music. Anyways, Reb is Reb. There's no other way to explain it.

Flor

Hmm. Where do I start talking about Flor? Well, I met her when we went to Caltopia in the quest to win a Target dog. Yes, Max the Target dog is now happily sitting at home on the piano. Aside from that, I don't think I ever saw her AGAIN during that first semester. As for second semester, it got progressively better as this vampire emerged from her room. Let me describe her room to you. It was dark and squeaky clean. Note: Flor is a germaphobe (hypochondriac somewhat if you want to get technical). So besides vacuuming, Flor is always cleaning everything with her endless supply of Clorox wipes and home-made chemical cleaners.

Moving on...I spent a great deal of time in Flor's room ranging from writing essays to constructing a pinata (Shh. The pinata is a secret). But in truth, I didn't like Flor at first, well not her per se. It was actually her alarm clock that I despised. Because she often went home to LA almost every weekend, she would forget to turn off her alarm clock. Yes alarm clocks should be relatively loud to wake up the person; however, when the floor can hear the alarm clock from down the hall in the bathroom for 3 hours, it's bad. You're probably wondering why didn't her roommate shut off the stupid alarm clock? Well, there's a good explanation for that too. Her roommate wasn't there. It's not like she went home every weekend too. Sometimes she did, but most of the time she disappeared with a significant other who I don't think is as significant anymore.

So what else can I say about Flor? Well she's a Classics major who is addicted to youtube, boba, reading manga (I mean she's literally read all of the manga on mangafox.com and onemanga.net and she keeps daily updates on all of them), and pretty Asian boys who can pass off as manga characters (she believes that they are all vampires and that it's physically impossible for them to exist except for one-> Hero from the K-pop group DBSK). Though I am somewhat oblivious to pop culture, I do like listening to international music. It's interesting.

Now in the present day, Flor is currently my roommate. Though I have been warned about random moments of sleepwalking (she once came out with a band-aid on her forehead and she wasn't even hurt), I have successfully survived. I do sometimes end up a little sleep deprived because we get really hyper for no apparent reason at random times of the night. No we do not have problems, and no we are not insane. Everything is a figment in someone's imagination so it's all in whoever's perspective.

Back to School... AGAIN.

So I've finally settled back into the dorms at Cal. Driving up here was long and arduous (mostly for the driver). I think this time it felt more rushed. However, the craziest part of this trip was the amount of stuff that I had accumulated. Forget the essential school supplies like paper, highlighters and other stuff, I had managed to bring twice as much stuff as last year. Forget making do with everything, I don't know how it even happened. But let's get onto my room.

1. It is ginormously huge. Literally. It's actually twice the size of my real room at home. How sad. My roommate and I have effectively named our room "the tumbling room".
2. The closets and bathrooms have no doors strangely enough. It's a little bit awkward being able to see everything in your closet but having everyone else see everything in your closet (that includes the building next to and across from me)
3. There is no public bathroom or water fountain like the blueprint had indicated in May. I think that the space for the bathroom and water fountain were replaced with locked doors and extra sets of stairs.
4. This building has more than one entrance door, which makes things so much more convenient.
5. The elevators are super fast plus each floor tells you where the elevator is so that you won't be waiting forever.

Aside from that move-in went well. My roommate got a TV so we got to watch the Olympics closing ceremony before we got sucked into administrative details. First day of school went like any first day of school except I ended class at 6. I was a bit disappointed by that. Oh well. It's only once a week.

Comic strip updates:
8-26-08 Internet has returned :)
8-27-08 First day of school :(
future updates TBA

note: Updates might be a little slow only because I am back in school. Hopefully I can update whatever happened last year and start a new chapter about this year
